A GOOD STORY.
A QUESTIONABLE SOURCE.
Nobody has produced sufficient evidence to the contrary.
Depending on who’s telling it, Robert was either in the room when it happened, outside having a smoke, or the reason the room is no longer available for private functions.
He has never let that uncertainty slow down a perfectly serviceable story.
His Books to Read in Jail — For the Average American Outlaw series follows ordinary people making terrible decisions for excellent reasons: saving a dive bar, putting on a show, cooking their way out of a corner, trying to enjoy one goddamn day of fishing, or fighting to make a living growing the good stuff.
There are bills to pay. Friends to bail out. Things that used to work. People who deserve better. And, usually, a plan that sounds considerably more reasonable before anybody writes it down.
Robert likes those people. Even when they’re making it difficult.
As for the man himself? Accounts vary. The books are the part he’s willing to put in writing.
